my first day volunteer

( First Day 8/15 Hours  )
15-3-2014
SATURDAY
 8 AM / 3 PM
My first day volunteer in The Khalifa International Date Palm Award inside of Emirates palace with takatof that well announce at Sunday morning , were always filled with anticipation and excitement as to what tasks my day will involve.

The volunteers where 4 of my classmates and 5 more people. upon arriving at the emirate place our supervisor split us into 3 groups for the 2 days where we would take turns at getting the guests from the main door and say welcome and lead them to the hall, helping the special needs and kids, show the guests the history of date palm and we had to arrange around 750 bags.

After we had split each one took his position and start working to get ready for tomorrow it was a great experience as a volunteer I was helping others, but I also helped myself. I was very nervous on my first day, but i mange to remove the nervous after i start to recognize that all my life I’ve always loved helping people and serving and giving back in any way I can.

All my worries were gone instantly.I had fun, enjoyed the guests and my team.It built my self-esteem a lot!  I felt great seeing that I can contribute my time and knowledge to be part of a team. My supervisor was great, he guided me, taught me how to interact with guests. Every hour was a new experience for me and the volunteers . I probably waited for the next day with bigger anticipation . In my opinion "volunteer is not all about benefiting the people you know best, but it’s  helping those complete stranger who need you most.”

My second day volunteer

( Second Day 15/15 Hours )

16-3-2014
SUNDAY
8 AM / 2 PM

My second day volunteer with The Khalifa International Date Palm Award inside of Emirates palace with takatof  , where much the same, filled with hard work we had to get ready to welcome the guest and to lead them to there chairs,to check the names of guest that are ambassador, student or participate.

Before 20 minutes from starting the ceremony  each volunteer went into his group and start to do what he was told to do. For my group we had to welcome the guests and lead them and we also had to help the Special Needs. At last after ceremony ended we had the honer to shake hands with his highness sheikh HAMED and his highness sheikh NAHYAN .
The ceremony was amazing، people from all over the world were there and had the chance to meet many Important figures and form a good relationships with some. At that moment i renumber my teacher JOHN VRHOVNIK when he always says
(For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction).

Finally i like to say that Volunteering is about giving, contributing, and helping other individuals and the community at large. It is working with others to make a meaningful contribution to a better community.

Charity and Volunteering in the UAE - Information and Activities/Exercise 7

Charity and Volunteering in the UAE - Information and Activities /Exercise 7

The UAE is famous for its hospitality and the desire to give one's time and efforts to help other people.

When I travel to other countries and talk to people about my job, the students and the UAE in general, one constant thought I hear repeated is that the UAE is a very hospitable country and its people are very generous. People in the UAE often want to do things to help others, whether it is other UAE Nationals or people from other countries.

Within the UAE we see so many examples of people volunteering and giving to charities to try and help others. People do this out of the simple goodness of their hearts and to try to help other people to have a better life than they have at the moment. An obvious example is TAKATOF which promotes the idea of volunteering within the country.

Just last semester (March 2013) we had a major charity fundraising week when students, staff and teachers of ADMC raised 25,000 Dh to donate to a school in a poor village Cambodia.

The UAE is also very strongly represented in the international field of assisting people from other countries. It may be through the Red Crescent that people donate money, time or skills to try and help others. So much of the time when we hear about various international problems, the UAE is one of the first to step forward and provide assistance.
